Somerton Duets Scholars - Curtain Raiser

“I would never have imagined that I would come to this place” – Somerton Duets scholar.

“I thought I would never be able to do ballet and I think this is the only opportunity to learn ballet” – Somerton Duets scholar.

The Duets scholars of Somerton Primary School took to the Riverfront stage in their first ever live dance performance of a curtain raiser piece ahead of Ballet Cymru’s Giselle. The piece combined ballet and contemporary techniques with the main focus on the creativity of the children as they showed their characters and friendships. The theme draws on the close relationships of the villagers from Ballet Cymru’s adaptation of Giselle and how these characters transform into the zombie like dead of the second act.

The scholars filled the massive stage of the Riverfront Theatre and received a huge round of applause from a full audience. Following their performance, they took their seats in the auditorium where they were again met with applause and shown the admiration given to professional artists. They were completely transfixed whilst watching the ballet of Giselle and the whole experience has really boosted their confidence, commitment and inspiration to try even harder in their dance sessions.
