Impelo

Partners: Impelo, Welshpool Primary School and The Hafren

At Impelo our commitment to lifelong learning extends beyond the people we work with and very much includes our team of employees and freelancers.  The CPD on offer through Duets represents an investment in the skills development of our dance practitioners that we are confident will enrich their practice and the quality of what we offer.

Duets is different to the weekly sessions that we run.  We offer drop-in open access weekly classes in creative/contemporary dance at a small selection of locations in Powys, with an emphasis on the fun and social aspects of taking part.  Duets, in actively seeking young dance talent, offers a more intensive and technical programme.  We recognise that currently there is a progression route gap between our regular classes and the undertaking of full-time dance training.  Duets will allow us to see a different offer in action that could well inform the development of progression routes in future.  Duets can help us reach those dancers and places in Powys that we’re not currently reaching.

The national remit of the programme hopefully means a supportive network and the deepening of relationships with sector colleagues Wales-wide.  We are hoping that the project is an opportunity to highlight the benefits of dance participation to a national audience, and the great work happening across the country. We are sure that knowing they are a part of a national programme will engender pride and further aspiration in the scholars!’

Ballet Cymru had a wonderful time leading a week-long residency at Welshpool Primary School. We worked with a total of 90 pupils during the week and 27 children committed to creating a fast and exciting curtain raiser to perform at The Hafren before the professional performance of ‘Romeo A Juliet’ by Ballet Cymru.

The children met the company dancers before the performance and talked about the characters that they playing in the performance of ‘Romeo A Juliet’

One of the highlights this week was ‘Big’ Robbie from Ballet Cymru meeting ‘Little’ Robbie from Welshpool Primary School!
